you sit down to watch the lion king with me. i point out that leafcutter ants do not live in africa within the first five minutes. you begin to realize that you have made a horrible mistake. i continue to point out every usage of a tiger’s roar in place of a lion’s. you are at the door, but it is locked.

am i the only person who actually really hated the ending of the last of us?

like everything could have been solved if they just fucking asked ellie what she wanted to do with her life instead of denying her any autonomy and making a very important decision for her

Basically what I thought, but that was only from seeing the last section done without the context of playing the rest of the game, so idk if that carries any actual weight.

it actually makes even less sense in context because for the entire game she is very vocal about what she wants and what she thinks, and the entire relationship arc between her and joel was joel starting to listen to her and trust her judgement

Boo, that’s super lame. Way to character development, Joel. I was pretty hype for the Last of Us before it came out (despite not owning a PS3) but overall it seems like it turned out kind of a disappointment.

yeah i was interested because so many people were saying it was amazing and it kept getting like perfect ratings but i really just feel like i’m missing something because nothing about it seems particularly groundbreaking or revolutionary. the graphics are very realistic i guess?? but idk there’s clearly something i’m not seeing

I think it makes a better movie than it does a game. Nothing new in either format, but it combined them on a higher level than before with its promises of proper good storytelling and pro mocap/voice acting. Quite the spectacle, but that didn’t stop the gameplay from being standard 3rd person shooter and the plot itself from falling into the same pitfalls that most movies do. It looks nice. It sounds nice. But I don’t think it rises above average in any other department.

(I’ve played a bit of the start of the game and seen friends and youtubers play a few different bits in the middle plus the ending, so there are probably things I missed)

Filed under also I find hyper realistic graphics tend to hurt gameplay more than help it but that's a personal gripe
